*Nosebleeds

Nosebleeds are quite common in children and can usually be treated without any medical assistance.

They occur when some of the tiny blood vessels in the nose bleed if they are disturbed by a minor injury, such as when picking or blowing your nose.

Treatment

  • Reassure the child and get them to sit down with their head leaning forward
  • Pinch the soft part of the nose just below the bridge and maintain pressure for 10 minutes
  • Tell the child to breathe through the mouth
  • Seek medical help if the bleeding has not stopped after 20 minutes
